The alto sax is the most common saxophone for beginners. A mid-pitched saxophone keyed in Eb (E flat),  this instrument uses a single reed attached to a chambered mouthpiece to create sound. Air blown into the mouthpiece flows across the reed causing it to vibrate and produce sound waves. Saxophones were created to produce a bright, projective tone like brass instruments but with the response and expression of a woodwind.
